Customs Intelligence Lahore raids markets recover smuggled goods

KARACHI: The Customs Intelligence & Investigation Lahore has initiated raiding markets and warehouses smuggled products as FBR has expanded the ambit of its anti-smuggling campaign.

In pursuance of credible information regarding storage of smuggled foreign origin cigarettes & Indian Gutka/Paan Parag, Director Customs Intelligence Lahore Saud Imran formed a team headed by Additional Director Rizwan Salabat to deal with the issue.

Anti-Smuggling staff of I&I-FBR, Lahore headed by Deputy director Masood Rabbani after obtaining search warrants carried out a late night raid at Khalid Plaza within the jurisdiction of Police Station New Anarkali, Lahore.

The search operation led to the recovery of around 420 cartons containing 4.2 million of smuggled cigarettes of various brands including Dunhill, Pine, Malboro Benson etc. along with around 02 metric tons of Indian Paan parag/Gutka/ Sheesha flavour.

Total value of the recovered goods comes around Rs60.5 million. FIR has been registered, investigation is in progress & efforts are being made to trace out & arrest the culprits.

It may be mentioned here that the authorities have several markets under surveillance where the smuggled goods are stored and sold. These markets include Shah Aalmi, AnarKali, liberty,   Town ship market, Multan road market, Shalamar market, Neela gumbad market, Station market and Azam cloth market.
