KARACHI: President Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FPCCI) Abdul Rauf Alam has appointed Sheikh Mohammad Tariq as the Chairman of FPCCI Standing Committee on Customs Agents for 2016.

Sheikh Tariq would now form an eight-member committee and members on the committee would be selected from all over the country particularly Gwadar.

Talking to Customnews.pk, Sheikh Tariq said that he would strive to form a unity and cooperation among all the Customs agents adding that there was a division among agents and all the agents should be on the same page.

He was of the view that despite performing the most important job and facilitating trade, the Customs agents were not considered much honorable and added that he would work to improve the perception.

Sheikh Tariq was also concerned that in several cases Customs officials pinned the responsibility on Customs agents, which was usually unjustified.

On the platform of FPCCI, Customs Agents Committee is establishing a tax awareness helpdesk to assist the traders and other members of trade bodies in filing income tax returns, NTN and Sales Tax registration etc.

A task force is also being formed that would review and analyze various sectors of the economy and make recommendations.
