KARACHI: Justice Salahuddin Panwar of High Court of Sindh (SHC) on Monday dismissed a bail plea (Cr Bail 50/2016) filed by a Customs clearing agent Sharjeel Jamal.

Pooja Kalpana advocate appearing for the applicant pleaded that her client was being harassed by the Customs officials who are lodging FIR after FIR on false charges. She referred to an earlier order passed by a divisional bench of SHC restraining the customs officials from new FIR’s without permission from the court.

Ilyas Ahsan, Principal Appraiser, Law submitted that a constitution petition on same grounds is pending before the bench of SHC headed by Chief Justice and thus bail application on same grounds is not maintainable.

He also maintained that applicant was not being harassed as FIR’s were registered on solid evidence.

The bench after hearing the sides dismissed the bail application while in other connected matters, hearing was adjourned till April 11.

So far Sharjeel Jamal, his father and a brother has been booked in different FIRs. He was accused of importing cloth from India via Dubai showing the consignment to be of Chinese origin as import of cloth from India is banned.

Besides causing loss in respect of duties, taxes, and fines to the national kitty, applicant was accused of damaging the local textile industry to a great extent.
