Customs seeks shipping lines assistance to scrutinize fabric import data

KARACHI: MCC Appraisement West has started scrutinizing the import data of all fabric shipment to identify which of these consignments were cleared on mis-declared port of shipping.

There have been 17148 consignments of fabrics in the last three years including 2532 cleared from MCC Appraisement East, 1791 from Port Qasim, 1764 from Lahore, 1097 from Islamabad, 341 from Peshawar, 129 from Faisalabad, 144 from Sialkot and 9350 fabric consignments were cleared from MCC Appraisement West.  

The Shipping lines of these consignments have been advised to prove Master Bill of Lading to confirm the actual port of shipment. Collector Owais Agha Jawwad had a meeting with the representatives of shipping lines recently and appreciated their cooperation.

Additional Collector Saleem Memon, Deputy Collector Ghulam Nabi Kamboh, Appraising Officers Irshad Ahmed, Shahid Ibrahim Dasti and Javed Khalid also attended the meeting.

Shipping lines were given briefing about the fiscal fraud, Customs was investigating after a case was detected where importer and freight forwarder manipulated the IGM to mis-declare port of loading and availed certain benefits.

All the consignments of fabric coming over are being re-examined through R&D Appraisement West, Appraisement East and MCC Port Qasim. After the fabric, the ambit of this scrutiny would be broadened to other imported products.
