KARACHI: The UNEP is conducting the Customs/Enforcement officers training programme to create awareness about Ozone layer and Ozone Depleting Substances (ODS) and measures to protect the Ozone layer.
Trends in illegal trend of ODS, importance of Ozone layer and exchange of information, Do’s and Don’t’s in this regard are being discussed at these sessions.
The awareness campaign comprises of three seminars of which one has already been held in Karachi, a seminar will be held in Lahore on April 27, 2016 and in Islamabad on April 29, 2016.
Customs, Coastguards and Police officers are attending these sessions and a total of 90 officers will attend each seminar.
Seminar in Karachi imparted training to the officers in South Zone, Lahore seminar would impart training and information to the officers of central zone and Islamabad event would impart training to officers of North zone.
Collector Saeed Akram, Additional Director Ihsan Ali along with Consultant Mosuf Ali and Mazhar Hayat are conducting these sessions.
In Pakistan a large quantity of refrigerants, foam blowing agents, methyl bromide, halons, carbon tetrachloride and methyl chloroform in the guise of scrap material. CFC and CTC are banned to be imported in Pakistan.
It may be mentioned here that trade of second hand refrigerating units and compressors are banned world over.
