Ayyan Ali case: SHC issues notice to Secretary Interior again

KARACHI: A second notice was issued to Federal Interior Secretary for June 18 in Ayyan Ali’s ECL case by a divisional bench of High Court of Sindh (SHC) comprising Chief Justice Sajjad Ali Shah and Justice Mahmood A Khan here on Friday.

The second notice was issued as compliance report was not submitted today despite clear directives of the court. The bench has ordered the respondent secretary to remove the name of Ayyan Ali from Exit Control List (ECL) and to submit a report to the bench. It is worth mentioning that respondents have technically complied the order by removing the name of top model accused in currency smuggling case from ECL which was again included in ECL hours after.

The respondents have also challenged the order of the SHC ordering removing name of Ayyan from ECL before Supreme Court of Pakistan on ground that SHC’s order is in excess of jurisdiction. Ayyan is facing trial in a case registered against her by FIA on alleged charge of money laundering. She was arrested from Benazir Bhutto International Airport after recovery of cash in millions from a bag she was carrying. She was due to leave by an Emirate flight but was intercepted in the departure lounge.
