KARACHI: A divisional bench of High Court of Sindh (SHC) comprising Justice Munib Akhtar and Justice Anwar Hussain on Friday issued notice to the DG Custom Valuation and others for Aug 17 in a petition filed by Fast Cables Limited.
Citing the chairman FBR and Collector Weboc, petitioner Fast Cables maintained that they imported Electrolytic Copper rod (8 mm) classified under HS Code 7407-1020 attracting customs duty at a rate of 3 per cent. They filed a number of GDs’ as and when their consignment arrived at Karachi port. But Custom Valuation instead is assessing the consignments under PCT heading 7408-1100, which carries a custom duty at a rate of 11 per cent.
The petitioner sought provisional release of the consignment as per GD filed by them.
Masooda Siraj, counsel for Pakistan Customs Valuation sought time to seek instructions from her client.
The bench allowing the request adjourned further proceedings till Aug 17. The same bench also adjourned hearing of a petition filed by Super net till Aug 25. Earlier counsel for petitioner submitted that consignment was detained since four months causing loss to the petitioner.
